Mellott? Mellett? Mylott?

This is a partial scan of the death certificate for Patrick Mellott (or my great great grandfather). This is the grandfather for Maria Mellett Hazell
To date I have only documented three children for Patrick Mellott:

1.Patrick Mellott - This is the line from which we are related to Mel Gibson

2.Michael Mellott - This is Maria Mellett Hazell's father (or my great grandfather). He married Bridgett Faragher.

3.Margaret Mellott - She married Joseph Henry Tully - the boy next door. When her bother Michael married Bridgett Farragher, Margaret helped her sister-in-law (Bridgett) with the delivery of a number of their children. When documenting the birth of the children of Michael Mellott and Bridgett Faragherr, Margaret Tully's name is often found as a person that was present at birth.

The name of Mellett does have a number of different spellings. This depended on the pronouncing of the name and the ability of a person to read or write and the ear of the person that was writing information for a person that could not read or write.

When I began doing the Mellett and Hazell family research a number of the Mellett family members told me that we were not connected to anyone with the spelling of Mellott or Mylott or Millett. However, as you can see that is not the case. I am not sure if this finding was disturbing to any of our family members. It was never my intention to disrupt a family belief or traditions that have woven through families. Rather, it was my desire to understand our family history, the people who were a part of the history, the times in which they lived and what influences affected the choices or decisions individuals made.

I hope you enjoy how this Hazell / Mellett Blogg unfolds our family history.
