Maria was the oldest of eight children. Her youngest sister Tess followed her to Boston, Massachusetts. There Tess met a young man who was rooming upstairs in her sister's home at 41 Dighton St., Brighton, Massachusetts. He was John Edward L"Abbe. They had two daughters Joan and Patricia (Pat). Here, in this collage, in the upper left corner is Tess and lower right corner is Maria. Pictures were taken in the very early 1900's. The handsome fellow at the top without a hat is their youngest brother John (Jack) Mellett. He moved to Castlebar, Co. Mayo. There he married Anne Chambers and they had four children together. The Melletts still have relatives in Castlebar. The center ship picture is the Cymric. Maria arrived in Boston 5 Oct 1908 aboard this ship. The Cymric was a ship that departed from Queenstown, Ireland and brought many immigrants to the United States.
Family history for William Francis Hazell and Maria Mellett Hazell my grandparents. Name variations were common and our family is no exception. Hazell originally was Hazel. William was not given a middle name at birth and he first added the initial "F" then finally we find his entire middle name "Francis". Mellett was Millett and Mylott and Millit, depending on the accent of whoever was talking and the ear of whoever was listening along with the reading and writing ability of the individual.
