If ever there was an "Irish Tune" joyfully singing from the heart, Michael Mellett had such a heart. Michael and I began to be pen-pals in the mid 1980's thanks to my mother. They were first cousins. Michael's father, Michael Joseph (1995-1958), was a brother to my grandmother, Maria Mellett Hazel-Hazell (1879-1973). Maria was the oldest of 8 children and Michael was #7.
Michael moved off the family farm and headed for Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. There he married Anne Marie Delaney (1895 – 1948) and had six children together. Michael was #3. Michael married Margaret and they had five children and the grandchildren are still adding to his family tree. Michael passed away April 2010 yet that Irish Song of his keeps on playing.
