Cymric Ship Manifest

Maria Mellett Hazell began her trip to America as a new bride. At the age of 26 she left Queenstown on September 24th 1908 and would arrive in Boston October 5, 1908. The Cymric was a newly built ship just being completed in 1898. The cattle compartment was used to transport the immigrants. Within a few years the Cymric would be sunk by the same U2 submarine that sunk the Lusitania a year earlier. The journey across the Atlantic was a heroic journey. There was no quick turning back. These young people were pioneers for a new life. Times were unforgiving in Ireland and putting her trust in a strapping young man that would care for her family and a strong Catholic faith to lead her and the new family she soon would begin, Maria (nana) boarded the Cymric for her new life in America.
